Cleaning Up Your
In the modern age, the world revolves around
communication. It’s an innovation that has
been taken to new heights in recent years, and
now communication is more accessible, instant,
and worldwide than people in recent history
could have imagined. Whether it’s in business or
personal use, the world relies on communication,
and without it many of our institutions would
collapse in an instant. The most prevalent forms
of this communication would have to be email,
which is widely used for personal reasons, and
universally used in business. But what do we do
when our email doesn’t work how we want it to?
What is to be done if issues arise from our email them directly. And the checkboxes to be added
that we aren’t able to get past? We can’t simply
stop using the service, because the rest of the
world certainly won’t. Not using email is not an
option, so that only leaves fixing the problem in confusing semantics so you can’t figure out
question.
The most prominent and prevalent problem
arising in email is spam and unwanted
subscriptions. As the internet continues to
grow into the behemoth it’s already resembling,
unfortunately the corrupt practices and
frustrating irritations that companies thrust
upon us will continue to grow with them. In this
vein, email subscriptions is a matter that has
grown into a serious issue, not just in the world
of email but in communication in general, and is
getting a lot more publicity as of late now that
email users are questioning why this continues
to happen when no one really wants it to.
If you are lucky enough not to know what
email subscriptions are, they are basically the
same as the advertisements and junk mail
you get sent to your mailbox at home. Often
unwittingly, when you use different services
or websites they will add you to a list that
means they will regularly send you emails,
with advertisements, offers, newsletters and
many other types of generally unwanted
correspondence.

Legally, a company isn’t allowed to sign
you up for one of these email lists without
your permission, but many websites will do so
anyway as soon as they get your email address.
Even the legally compliant companies, however,
find ways to get you onto their mailing lists.
These are often subtle to the point of deceptive,
with checkboxes hiding at the bottom of lengthy
terms and conditions, or they will hide within the
endless terms and conditions contracts that
have never been read by anyone without at least
one law degree that you will be automatically
signed up to their mailing list unless you contact
to the mailing list that are in plain sight often have your email to see every subscription that you
other ways of deceiving you, by employing the
use of double negatives or other purposefully
whether you should be ticking the box or not.
All this is to say that the main way companies
will sign you up to their mailing lists is by
confusion and deception. And regardless of
anything else, if those are the company’s main
tools to get you to agree to allow them to send
you emails, that’s a pretty good sign it isn’t a
service you really want.
This all begs the question: How do I stop
it? Well, again legally speaking, you should be
fully entitled to unsubscribe any email lists very
simply through the website of the company in
question, or the email you receive. However,
even regardless of all of the many websites
and companies that do not adhere to these
laws, the ones who do will still make it as
difficult as possible for you to unsubscribe.
These companies resort to hiding the option to
unsubscribe, making it so you need to phone
their call center to do so, or subscribe you to
dozens of different mailing lists all at once, but
making you have to unsubscribe to each one
individually. Unfortunately, through much of this
we are largely powerless, and left to spend our
time and energy unsubscribing to emails that
we never even wanted.
Recently, however, a new service has
appeared and is trying to make all of this a thing

stopping just what I’ve described in this article.

through an app on your phone. One additional
feature that is a big bonus is what they call
